When I die, she said, I’m coming back as a tree with deep roots & I’ll wave my leaves at the children every morning on their way to school & whisper tree songs at night in their dreams. Trees with deep roots know about the things children need.

some cool stuff you can get with this story...

I am a retired teacher, a mom and a grandma who attended the Women’s March in DC on the 21st and am continuing to address the issues that are of concern to me. Several years ago I bought the water color print “Deep Roots” and have had it hanging in my den ever since. Right now I am writing postcards to my Ohio Senators asking them not to ratify Betsy DeVos for Secretary of Education as I feel she is unqualified for the position of leader of our public schools. I hope you don’t mind – I included Deep Roots giving you full credit as I think that the analogy of the tree with strong roots to a strong leader with experience and expertise in education conveys my message that the tree (public education) will topple under her leadership. Thank you for your inspiring words.

This is one of my favorite StoryPeople prints. Have loved it for years. How wonderful of this writer/teacher/grandmother to use it in this way. I think we should all contact our state Senators and ask them to remove Betsy DeVos. She has caused much harm to our school systems. Thanks you, Susan Krist, for your attention to this matter.
